Young talent shines at Hyderabad district Gatka championship ; 105 players participate from 9 schools

Telangana Gatka Association conducts district Gatka competition

Hyderabad, November 18, 2025 (Navroze Bureau) – The Hyderabad district Gatka competition wrapped up with strong performances and spirited participation, setting the stage for the district squad that will compete at the state-level tournament during the 69th Telangana State School Games in Mahabubabad next month. The event drew an impressive response from young athletes, underscoring the steady rise of Gatka across Telangana.
The Telangana Gatka Association (TGA) has been holding Gatka tournaments across the state for the past three years. Its steady expansion reflects how this traditional martial art, now recognised as a competitive sport, is capturing the interest of schoolchildren and emerging athletes.
General Secretary of TGA Vishal Singh informed that Gatka has established a firm presence at national and international platforms due to the efforts of the National Gatka Association of India, with which the state body is affiliated. He added that Telangana players continue to bring laurels to the state by winning medals at national events each year. He urged parents and the community to keep supporting Gatka players so they can pursue the sport with confidence.
The Hyderabad district tournament took place on November 14 and 15 at Guru Harkrishan Public School in Ashok Bazar, Afzalgunj. A total of 105 players from nine schools competed with energy and discipline, delivering a vibrant showcase of skill. The event ran with support from Gurdwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha, Afzalgunj, and Guru Harkrishan High School.
Observers from the State Education Department, including PD Venkat Swamy and PD Rajendra Raj, oversaw the competition to ensure smooth conduct.
He informed that several distinguished guests attended the event, including Principal Amarjeet Kaur Bagga of Sri Guru Harkrishan High School, Gurdwara Management Committee President Satvinder Singh Bagga, General Secretary Joginder Singh Muzral, TGA President Sukhdev Singh Santu, General Secretary Vishal Singh, Secretary Harmesh Singh Ranjan, Member Jagjeevan Singh, Hyderabad District Committee President Sandeep Singh and State Coordinator Jasbir Singh.
Chief Coach Gurvinder Singh Daroga played a key role in guiding the event to success. Technical Director Nanak Singh and the technical team, including Gurnam Singh, Satpreet Kaur, Parmeet Kaur, Harbhajan Singh, Rashabjit Singh, Satwant Singh, Jagdeep Singh, Jagat Singh, Gurtera Singh, Ramandeep Kaur, Deep Kaur, Angad Singh and Ramanpreet Singh, ensured fair and transparent judging throughout the competition.
The championship concluded on a promising note, marking another step forward for Gatka game in Telangana and reinforcing its growing appeal among students across the district.
