Mohali Bar Association to observe ‘No Work Day’ on Nov 14 in solidarity with Muktsar Sahib advocates

SAS Nagar, November 13, 2025 (Navroze Bureau) : The District Bar Association (DBA) Mohali has announced a complete “No Work Day” strike in the courts on Wednesday November 14 in solidarity with the ongoing protest by the advocates of Sri Muktsar Sahib against alleged misconduct and abuse of authority by district police.

The decision was taken during an emergent meeting of the Executive Body of DBA Mohali held under the presidentship of Advocate Snehpreet Singh. The house unanimously resolved to stand with the legal fraternity of Sri Muktsar Sahib, which has been protesting over what it termed as “continued misconduct, bias, and misuse of power” by local police officials in a case involving Advocate Harmandeep Singh Sandhu. Despite repeated representations and resolutions passed on October 31, 2025, the association noted that the police authorities allegedly continued to act “in a highly irresponsible, prejudiced and mala fide manner” while extending support to political figures.

The Mohali Bar also took cognizance of the resolution passed by DBA Sri Muktsar Sahib to permanently boycott MLA Jagdeep Singh alias Kaka Brar, following alleged high-handed behavior against Advocate Sandhu at the behest of local police. Expressing firm solidarity, the DBA Mohali declared that it “stands united with the legal fraternity and will always raise its voice against injustice and misuse of power.”

As part of the state-level call, the association in its resolution has urged all Judicial Officers, Revenue Courtsand other authorities to adjourn the cases of its members scheduled for November 14 and refrain from passing any adverse orders on that day. The association has further cautioned that a fine of Rs 5,000 will be imposed on any member who appears in court during the strike.

The Executive Body reaffirmed that the strike is a collective stand against injustice, calling upon the legal community to uphold professional dignity and resist arbitrary actions undermining the independence of advocates.
