Fatehgarh Sahib, August 21:
Fatehgarh Sahib MLA Advocate Lakhbir Singh Rai said that the Punjab Government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, is continuously undertaking public-oriented initiatives to promote women’s welfare and ensure maternal and child health and safety.
He said that as part of these efforts, during the current financial year, 269 pregnant women and lactating mothers in the district have so far been provided financial assistance amounting to ₹8.43 lakh.
MLA Rai said that under the scheme, beneficiary women are provided financial assistance of ₹5,000 on the birth of their first child. The amount is released in two instalments—₹3,000 in the first instalment and ₹2,000 in the second.
He further said that if the second child is a girl, the government provides ₹6,000 in financial assistance in a single instalment. The amount is transferred directly into the beneficiaries’ bank accounts through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), ensuring transparency as well as timely delivery of assistance.
Advocate Rai said that during the financial year 2026-27, a total of 1,101 beneficiary women have so far been registered under the scheme.
He said that these figures demonstrate that the welfare schemes of the Punjab Government are reaching an increasing number of eligible women.
