Faridkot,23 Sep 2025 : The 14th Kabaddi Cup, dedicated to Baba Farid’s arrival anniversary, was organized at the local Nehru Stadium by the Baba Farid Sports Kabaddi Club. On this occasion, Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker S. Kultar Singh Sandhwan and MLA S. Gurdit Singh Sekhon participated as chief guests, encouraging and motivating the players.
Speaker Sandhwan said that the Punjab Government is continuously striving to make Punjab a leading state in sports. He added that this is possible only if the younger generation stays away from drugs and takes interest in sports. He also announced a grant of ₹1 lakh for the tournament committee.
In his address, MLA S. Gurdit Singh Sekhon said that sports contribute to our overall development. When players travel to distant places for tournaments, they gain valuable experiences. Sports also instill the spirit of progress and the desire to achieve victory.
Yesterday’s matches included Kabaddi All Open, 75 kg category, 57 kg category, and Kabaddi Open for girls. In the 75 kg category, Daggu Rumana secured the first place and Sikhwanwala came second. In the 57 kg category, Muddki won the first place and Malha stood second. In the All Open category, Gaggi Lopo Sports Club bagged the first position while Jang Sports Club, Baghapurana, came second. In the All Open, Kaka Sekha was declared Best Raider and Kala Malha as Best Catcher. In the girls’ open matches, Doaba team secured the first place and Malwa team the second.
On this occasion, Amandeep Singh (Baba) Singh, Chairman of Market Committee Faridkot, Ramanjit Singh Mumara, Chairman of Market Committee Sadik, S. Sukhjeet Singh Dhilwan, Sukhwant Singh Pakka, and a large number of local residents were present.
