152 NDPS Cases Filed in Barnala in Six-Month Drug Crackdown

Barnala,27 June 2025: Under the Punjab Government’s campaign ‘War Against Drugs’, the district administration, police department, and health department in Barnala are not only raising awareness among the public but also tightening the noose around drug traffickers.

This was stated by Deputy Commissioner Barnala, Mr. T. Banith, while presiding over a meeting of NCORD (National Narcotics Coordination Portal).

On this occasion, District Police Chief Muhammad Sarfaraz Alam shared that from January 1, 2025, to June 24, 2025, Barnala Police seized:

  • 51,738 intoxicant tablets
  • 25,031 intoxicant capsules
  • 571 grams of heroin
  • ₹39,700 in drug money
  • Other narcotics
  • And confiscated 12 vehicles

He also informed that 152 NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act) cases were registered in the past six months.

Additionally, the police conducted:

  • 1,069 awareness seminars
  • 254 Cordon and Search (CASO) operations
  • Anti-drug resolutions were passed by 113 village panchayats

Drug Control Officer Parneet Kaur reported:

  • In April, 35 inspections were carried out and licenses of 11 firms were suspended for varying periods
  • In May, 37 inspections were done, 5 cosmetic samples collected, and licenses of 13 firms suspended
  • In June (so far), 25 inspections were conducted. During joint inspections with the police, 15 types of medicines were seized and 3 samples collected

She further added:

  • On June 12, during joint checking with police at Meera Pharmacy, New Bus Stand Road, Barnala, 15 types of medicines were seized without a valid license, and 3 types of samples were taken
  • A sample of veterinary vaccines was also collected from Ashu General Store in Tapa
  • On June 23, an inspection was done in village Dhillwan, Tehsil Tapa, where 25 types of medicines were seized and 2 samples taken

The Deputy Commissioner also reviewed the de-addiction treatment and activities of the health department. He instructed the education department to not only install anti-drug slogans in schools but also raise awareness among parents and students about the harmful effects of drugs during parent-teacher meetings.

Present at the occasion were Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Madam Anuprita Johal, ADC (Development) Satwant Singh, SP Rajesh Chhibber, SDM Barnala Harpreet Singh Atwal, SDM Tapa Simarpreet Kaur, Civil Surgeon Baljit Singh, and other officials.

Summary:
In the past six months, Barnala district registered 152 NDPS Act cases under the state’s anti-drug campaign, leading to major arrests and narcotics seizures.
