Fatehgarh Sahib, April 21: So far, 104,112 metric tons of wheat have arrived at the 33 procurement centers under the district market committees, with various purchasing agencies buying 95,169 metric tons of wheat. This information was provided by Deputy Commissioner Dr. Sona Thind. She explained that 26,708 metric tons of wheat have been lifted from the markets, and as payment for the purchased wheat, ₹121.76 crore have been deposited into the farmers’ bank accounts.
Dr. Sona Thind mentioned that out of the wheat purchased in the markets, 17,224 metric tons were bought by Pangrain, 18,943 metric tons by Markfed, 15,051 metric tons by Punsup, 19,730 metric tons by Warehouses, 6,981 metric tons by FCI, and 17,240 metric tons by private traders.
The Deputy Commissioner appealed to the district’s farmers not to cut wheat with combines during the night. She stated that at night, combines tend to cut even immature crops, which increases the moisture content of the wheat. Procurement agencies are unable to buy crops with excessive moisture, leading to piles of unsold crops in the markets.
Summary: As per the Deputy Commissioner, 95,169 metric tons of wheat have been purchased in district markets, showcasing a significant increase in procurement this season.
