Jalandhar,19 June 2025 : There was a great deal of enthusiasm among people today for the “CM di Yogshala” program. A wave of excitement for yoga swept through Jalandhar city as more than 21,000 yoga enthusiasts participated in the event, setting a new record for attendance at a single yoga program. Initially, arrangements were made for 17,000 yoga mats, but the overwhelming response exceeded all expectations.
Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh urged people to make yoga an integral part of their daily lives during the state-level “CM di Yogshala” event at PAP Ground. Addressing a large gathering, he expressed happiness at seeing people from all walks of life participating enthusiastically in the mega event. He said that “CM di Yogshala” is a step toward building a healthier and more vibrant Punjab. Dr. Balbir Singh proudly stated that thousands of Punjabis are associated with this noble initiative and added that the day is not far when Punjab will regain its former glory as a healthy and dynamic state.
Alongside Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal and Police Commissioner Dhanpreet Kaur, the Health Minister said he was very pleased to see thousands of people connecting with the government through this initiative. He shared that this campaign began two years ago in Jalandhar under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann. Currently, around 3,200 yoga classes are held daily across the state, benefiting nearly 100,000 people.
The Health Minister added that trained yoga instructors have been appointed to teach yoga and appealed to everyone to incorporate yoga into their lives to stay fit and healthy, helping Punjab truly become a healthy state.
Calling yoga a blessing for both physical and mental health, the minister emphasized that these yogshalas are helping Punjabis lead healthier lives. He highlighted the importance of maintaining good health and managing stress, especially as people face many challenges in daily life. Rising stress is a major concern, and yoga can play a crucial role in addressing it.
“CM di Yogshala” is a citizen-centric initiative conceptualized by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Inspired by its success, the Punjab government, under Bhagwant Mann, replicated this scheme to ensure similar benefits for the people of Punjab. Dr. Balbir Singh further said that these yogshalas, in line with India’s ancient and glorious traditions, will help Punjabis become physically and mentally healthier.
During the event, the Minister announced that the “CM di Yogshala” program would soon be extended to rural areas as well. He highlighted that this initiative, launched under the dynamic leadership of CM Bhagwant Singh Mann, has proven effective in the state’s anti-drug campaign “Yudh Nashe de Viruddh”. Yoga is being used to mentally empower individuals struggling with substance abuse.
Earlier, Jalandhar Mayor Vanit Dhir welcomed the dignitaries, while noted industrialist and AAP leader Nitin Kohli delivered the vote of thanks. Also present on the occasion were Mayor Vanit Dhir, AAP leader Nitin Kohli, Principal Prem Kumar, Health Secretary Kumar Rahul, Dr. Sanjeev Sood (Vice Chancellor of Sri Guru Ravidas Ayurved University, Hoshiarpur), Director Rajinder Singh Rehal, ADGP Naresh Arora, and others.
