Rain and Thunderstorm Alert Issued for Several Punjab Districts Today

Punjab,20 June 2025 : The weather in Punjab is set to change once again. The monsoon is expected to become fully active in the state within the next three days. Even before the official arrival of the monsoon, the weather has been changing rapidly. Pre-monsoon rains have brought a noticeable drop in temperatures, offering significant relief from the heat. Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has predicted the monsoon will reach Punjab in the next 2-3 days, with rain likely to continue throughout the week.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), rain is expected in the state from June 19 to 25. Very heavy rainfall is likely on June 22 and 25, heavy rain on June 21 and 23, and light to moderate rain in several areas on June 20 and 24. A yellow alert has also been issued for lightning and strong winds in many districts. The IMD has issued a yellow alert for rain and thunderstorms in Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Fatehgarh Sahib, Rupnagar, Patiala, SAS Nagar (Mohali), and Sangrur. According to the department, today’s rainfall will have the greatest impact in Rupnagar and SAS Nagar. Similarly, continuous rainfall is expected in the coming days.

According to the information, on June 20, a yellow alert has been issued for strong winds, lightning, and light to moderate rain in Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Nawanshahr, Rupnagar, Mohali, Fatehgarh Sahib, and Patiala. On June 21 and 22, warnings have been issued for strong winds, lightning, and heavy rainfall in Ludhiana, Patiala, Jalandhar, Nawanshahr, Amritsar, Sangrur, Rupnagar, and Mansa districts. The monsoon is expected to be fully active in Punjab by June 23. On that day, heavy rain and stormy winds are expected in most districts of the state. Although in the past 24 hours, the maximum temperature has increased by an average of 0.6 degrees Celsius, it remains close to normal levels.
