Faridkot 3 July 2025 : District Magistrate of Faridkot, Madam Poonamdeep Kaur, exercising the powers vested under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) 2023, has issued orders to ensure preventive measures are taken to avoid diseases caused by accumulated garbage, filth, and stagnant dirty water in vacant plots under private possession/ownership within the district.
According to the issued orders, owners/occupiers of vacant plots in the city must ensure immediate cleaning of garbage piles, filth, and stagnant rainwater at their own level. They must either construct a permanent boundary wall or fencing around the property or take appropriate steps to prevent the accumulation of waste in these plots.
District Magistrate Poonamdeep Kaur stated that in various parts of the city, vacant plots under the ownership or occupation of individuals often become dumping grounds for garbage, filth, and stagnant water. This leads to the breeding of harmful insects and pests, which cause several diseases such as dengue, malaria, and chikungunya. These illnesses pose a serious and potentially life-threatening risk to public health.
In view of this situation, she emphasized that cleaning these vacant plots is essential to prevent the spread of such diseases. Hence, this order has been issued.
Summary:
The District Magistrate has directed owners of vacant private plots to clean and fence them to prevent health hazards. Non-compliance may invite fines and legal action.
