Punjab Government Buses to Halt as Employees Announce Three-Day Strike

Jalandhar/Ludhiana, 7 July 2025 : Important news for women and other passengers traveling in Punjab government buses — if you are planning to travel between 9th to 11th July, you might face difficulties. A strike has been announced by the Punjab Roadways (PUNBUS) and PRTC contract workers’ union from 9th to 11th July, during which all bus services will come to a halt.

Union state president Resham Singh Gill and general secretary Shamsher Singh Dhillon stated that the strike is being held to press for several long-pending demands — including permanent recruitment, removal of contractors from the department, abolishment of the kilometer scheme buses, and addition of new buses to the fleet. During this strike, all PUNBUS and PRTC buses will remain completely non-operational.

They also informed that this strike is receiving full support from bus unions in Haryana and Himachal Pradesh. Protests will be held at all depots across Punjab, bus stands will remain shut, and the unions will raise their voices for their demands. Union officials from various depots will also be present during the protest.

Summary:
Punjab’s PRTC and PUNBUS staff will suspend services from July 9–11, demanding job regularization, timely wages, and reimbursement settlements, affecting thousands of daily commuters.
