DC Reviews Fisheries Plans with District Committee

Moga,  10 July 2025 : There is a need to increase awareness about the activities and schemes of the Fisheries Department so that farmers can fully benefit from them. These remarks were made by Deputy Commissioner Moga, Mr. Sagar Setia, while presiding over a meeting to review the district-level action plan of the Fisheries Department, Moga. He stated that the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) is a key initiative, and every resident of the district must be aware of it. Also present at the meeting were Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Mr. Jagvinderjeet Singh Garewal and other officials.

Assistant Director, Fisheries, Moga, Mrs. Rashu Mahindrata provided detailed information about the activities under the department and the meeting agenda. She reviewed the approved action plan for the year 2024–25 under the PMMSY and discussed the proposed action plan for 2025–26. The new plan includes expanding fish farming areas, purchasing motorcycles with iceboxes and an insulated van under the women category, with a proposed total budget of ₹79.50 lakh.

Department officials explained that the scheme’s main objectives are to develop fish farming in the district, create employment opportunities for youth, and increase farmers’ income. As per the guidelines of the Government of India under PMMSY:

  • Beneficiaries from the General category receive a 40% subsidy on unit cost.
  • SC/ST and women beneficiaries are entitled to a 60% subsidy.

After discussion, the Deputy Commissioner approved the action plan.

Fisheries Officer Baljot Singh Mann informed that any district resident can benefit from the PMMSY scheme. To support this, a 5-day free training camp will be organized from 21 July to 25 July 2025 at Room No. 321, Sutlej Block, District Administrative Complex, Moga, under the office of the Assistant Director, Fisheries. Any interested individual above 18 years of age can participate.

To register for the training, applicants must bring:

  • Two passport-size photographs
  • A copy of their Aadhaar card
  • A copy of their bank passbook

This initiative aims to promote fish farming and provide self-employment opportunities across the district.
