Tarn Taran, 30 July 2025 : A meeting of the District-Level Advisory Committee on Food Safety was held today at the District Administrative Complex, Tarn Taran, under the chairmanship of Additional Deputy Commissioner Shri Rajdeep Singh Brar.
Addressing the meeting, the Additional Deputy Commissioner emphasized that it is mandatory for every food operator in the city to obtain a food license or registration. He stated that any shopkeeper, restaurant or dhaba owner who does not apply for the required license/registration will face legal action under the Food Act. He further added that all pending court cases related to old food sampling matters will be resolved at the earliest.
On this occasion, Assistant Civil Surgeon, Tarn Taran, reiterated the Health Department’s commitment to providing the public with adulteration-free and hygienic food and said continuous efforts are being made in this regard.
District Health Officer Dr. Sukhbir Kaur (Convener) briefed all committee members on food safety-related activities conducted during June and July. She directed officials related to schools to ensure food safety registration in schools and Anganwadi centres at the earliest, and that food provided to children be prepared following food safety guidelines. She also shared information about the ban on the sale of energy drinks in and around school premises.
The Additional Deputy Commissioner instructed all concerned to raise awareness at their respective levels about healthy eating for better living. He also directed that awareness campaigns be conducted to prevent obesity and related diseases, and that awareness boards related to sugar and oil consumption be displayed in offices and schools.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Additional Deputy Commissioner appreciated the work being done by the Health Department related to food safety.
