Centre announces major benefits for women in Punjab state

31 July 2025 : The central government has made a major announcement for Punjab. During the ongoing Monsoon Session in Parliament, the government informed the Lok Sabha that under the ‘Namo Drone Didi’ scheme, a total of 14,500 drones have been approved across the country, out of which 1,021 drones will be allocated to Punjab.

This scheme aims to empower women in rural areas and connect them with modern technology. Under this initiative, rural women in Punjab will be trained as drone pilots so they can efficiently carry out agricultural tasks such as pesticide and fertilizer spraying, crop monitoring, measurement, and digital mapping.

The central government believes this move will not only create new employment opportunities in villages but also help reduce costs for farmers. For Punjab, this scheme is considered a significant step toward technically empowering women.

Notably, the scheme was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in November 2023. In his Independence Day speech, he also announced that at least 15,000 women would be trained to fly drones, ushering in a new revolution in the agricultural sector.

Summary:
The central government has made a big announcement for Punjab, introducing significant welfare benefits aimed specifically at improving the lives of women in the state.
