Hajipur 4 Sep 2025 : Due to heavy rainfall in Himachal Pradesh, the water level in Pong Dam has once again crossed the danger mark, reaching 1394.47 feet. As a result, officials of the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) have decided to release excess water from the dam. This move has increased the risk of floods in several villages of Punjab situated along the Beas River.
According to the information received, BBMB authorities today issued a letter stating that, keeping dam safety in mind, more water will be released from Pong Dam to reduce the water level. Starting today, a total of 99,985 cusecs of water has been released into the Shah Canal Barrage through turbines and spillway gates.
As per the latest data, at 7 p.m. today, the inflow of water into Pong Dam Lake was recorded at 107,517 cusecs, with the water level at 1394.47 feet. Out of this, 88,485 cusecs of water is being released into the Beas River from Shah Canal Barrage, while 11,500 cusecs is being released into the Mukerian Hydel Canal.
