‘Nothing Objectionable’: Allahabad HC Rejects Plea Seeking Ban on Jolly LLB 3 Release

4 Sep 2025 : In a major relief for the makers of Jolly LLB 3, the Allahabad High Court has dismissed a petition seeking to stop the film’s release, stating that there is “nothing objectionable” in its content that warrants a ban.

The petition, filed by a lawyer, claimed that the film portrayed the legal profession in a “derogatory manner” and could potentially hurt the sentiments of the legal community. The plea sought a stay on the release until certain scenes were modified or deleted.

Court’s Observations

A bench of Justices Sunil Kumar and Rajeev Singh heard the case and reviewed portions of the film presented before the court. After examination, the court ruled that creative works like films cannot be censored solely based on subjective interpretations unless they clearly violate constitutional or legal provisions.

“The film is a work of fiction meant for entertainment and does not intend to malign the judiciary or the legal profession. Freedom of expression must be protected in such cases,” the court observed.

Relief for Filmmakers

The dismissal of the plea clears the way for the smooth release of Jolly LLB 3, which is set to hit theaters nationwide this Friday. The film, starring Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi, is the third installment in the popular courtroom comedy-drama franchise.

Fox Star Studios, the producers, welcomed the judgment, calling it a “victory for artistic freedom.” In a statement, the production house said, “We are happy that the Hon’ble High Court recognized that our film does not demean the legal system but rather celebrates it through humor and drama.”

Background

Similar controversies surrounded the earlier films in the franchise. Jolly LLB (2013) and Jolly LLB 2 (2017) also faced petitions from lawyers seeking a ban, citing alleged misrepresentation of the profession. Both films were allowed to release after minor modifications and went on to become commercial and critical successes.

Audience Excitement

Fans of the series have been eagerly awaiting the third installment, which promises a courtroom face-off between Akshay Kumar’s and Arshad Warsi’s characters. The film’s trailer has already generated massive buzz, with its witty dialogues and satirical take on the legal system trending on social media.

Trade analysts predict that the court’s verdict will boost advance bookings and give the film a strong opening weekend at the box office.

Summary

Allahabad High Court dismisses plea to stop Jolly LLB 3 release, stating there’s “nothing objectionable,” clearing the way for the Akshay Kumar–Arshad Warsi starrer to release as scheduled.
