Punjab Schools Announce Extended Holidays; New Reopening Date Revealed

9 Sep 2025 : Floods have caused significant destruction in Punjab. As a result, the government had to decide to declare holidays in schools across the state. Meanwhile, a major update has emerged regarding the holidays in schools.

Fazilka District Magistrate Amarpreet Kaur Sandhu has issued orders to keep schools in flood-affected areas closed until further instructions. These orders were issued based on reports received from the District Education Department. According to the orders, students have also been instructed to continue their online studies. These orders were issued under the powers granted by Section 30 of the DM Act, 2005. The list of schools that will remain closed until further instructions is as follows:

In Gurdaspur district, schools will remain closed on 9th and 10th September 2025. However, teachers of these schools are required to be present in the schools.

Schools closed in Jalandhar:
District Magistrate Dr. Himanshu Agarwal has taken an important decision to declare holidays in 41 schools in Jalandhar district on 9th and 10th September. According to the orders issued by the administration, this decision has been taken keeping in mind the recent weather conditions and public safety. During this period, all academic activities in the mentioned schools will remain suspended. The district administration has appealed to parents and students to stay updated with instructions from the concerned authorities regarding the schools.

Schools closed in Kapurthala:
In view of the flood situation in Kapurthala district, the administration has taken a major decision. The Deputy Commissioner issued an order directing 11 government schools in the flood-affected areas of the district to remain closed on 9th and 10th September. This decision has been made keeping in mind the safety of students and the condition of school complexes. The administration stated that schools will be reopened once the situation returns to normal.

Summary : Certain schools in Punjab will observe extended holidays, with authorities announcing a revised reopening date, ensuring students and parents can plan academic and extracurricular activities accordingly.
