Ban Imposed on Burning of Paddy Stubble by Additional District Magistrate

Sri Muktsar Sahib, 26 Sep 2025 : Additional District Magistrate of Sri Muktsar Sahib, Gurpreet Singh Thind, exercising the powers vested under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita 2023, has issued orders imposing a complete ban on burning paddy stubble within the jurisdiction of the district.

According to the ADM’s orders, burning stubble poses serious risks. After paddy harvesting, when stubble is set on fire, it causes severe air pollution due to smoke, leading to respiratory diseases.

Burning stubble not only destroys organic matter that is highly beneficial for soil health but also reduces the soil’s fertility. The fire damages the upper layer of the soil, killing useful microorganisms, and can also cause major accidents. In addition, it pollutes the environment and disrupts traffic movement.

These orders will remain in force until November 30, 2025, and strict action will be taken against anyone violating them.

Summary:
The Additional District Magistrate has enforced a ban on burning paddy stubble residues to curb air pollution and promote eco-friendly stubble management practices among farmers.
