Nabha, 29 September 2025 : Punjab Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Balbir Singh today visited the Sub-Divisional Hospital in Nabha to review the situation of dengue cases in the area. During the visit, he inspected the dengue ward of the Civil Hospital and interacted with patients. MLA Gurdev Singh Dev Maan also accompanied him.
After reviewing the hospital, Dr. Balbir Singh also visited the dengue hotspot area of Bouran Gate, where he appealed to local residents to take precautions. He advised them not to let water accumulate in flowerpots, fridge trays, coolers, tires, or any other containers. He emphasized that sources of stagnant clean water should be dried at least once a week to prevent mosquito larvae from breeding.
The Cabinet Minister said that dengue spreads rapidly during the post-monsoon season. To strengthen detection, the number of dengue tests has been increased, and now these tests are available at Aam Aadmi Clinics. He added that he is personally monitoring the dengue situation twice a day through updates from Health Department officials. Joint teams of the Health Department and Local Bodies officials are conducting door-to-door inspections for larvae. Out of 65 lakh houses in Punjab, over 94 lakh checks have been conducted, with hotspot areas inspected more than once. Anti-larva spraying has been intensified, and panchayats have been provided pumps for spraying. Dr. Balbir Singh also directed the Municipal Council to speed up fogging in high-risk areas to curb the spread of dengue.
He further said that the Health Department has been working tirelessly for the past one and a half months to control dengue. Answering a question from the press, the Health Minister shared that nearly 500 new doctors have recently joined government service, including 33 in Patiala district. Recruitment of 500 nurses is underway, and in November, advertisements will be issued for 500 more. He announced that DNB courses in gynecology, medicine, and anesthesia will be launched in 23 district hospitals and 41 sub-divisional hospitals, which will significantly improve medical services.
On this occasion, Nabha MLA Gurdev Singh Dev Maan, SDM Nabha Dr. Ismat Vijay Singh, Civil Surgeon Dr. Jagpalinder Singh, SMO Dr. Veenu Goel, and Dr. Sumit Singh were also present.
