Weather alert issued: Heavy rain and strong winds expected for week

October 18, 2025  : The weather across Punjab and the entire northern India is set to change. The Meteorological Department has shared this information. Light clouds may persist over Haryana, Punjab, Delhi, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh, with heavy rainfall reported in some areas.

According to the Meteorological Department, in the next seven days, parts of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry are likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has indicated that between 17th and 22nd October, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Mahe may see significant rain, while between 17th and 19th October, Lakshadweep and South Interior Karnataka may experience light to moderate rainfall along with heavy showers at one or two places.

On 17th October, light to moderate rainfall is forecasted in Coastal Karnataka, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and Rayalaseema, while very heavy rainfall is possible in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Mahe, and Lakshadweep. These regions may also experience lightning and thunderstorms over the next five days.

The department has also predicted lightning and thunderstorms in Konkan, Goa, and Central Maharashtra between 18th and 20th October.

Rain expected in West Bengal:
According to the Meteorological Department, light rain is expected in coastal areas of Bengal on Saturday and Sunday. The likelihood of rain in Kolkata is low, though skies may remain cloudy. The department also stated that light rainfall may occur in coastal areas in the coming days.

Weather in Northern India:
The weather is gradually changing in the plains of northern India. Light clouds may persist over Haryana, Punjab, Delhi, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh, with heavy rainfall reported in some areas.

Apart from Jammu and Kashmir, snowfall has already begun in hilly states like Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, and its effects are being felt in the plains. According to the IMD, if snowfall continues until Diwali, the cold wave could intensify. In Himachal Pradesh, the weather is expected to remain generally clear until 21st October, although higher altitude areas will experience snowfall.
