Punjab, November 24, 2025 : Union Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh Bittu has taken a strong stand on the ongoing dispute regarding Punjab University (PU), saying that Chandigarh is more precious to Punjabis than their own lives. Bittu made it clear that the BJP leadership—whether at the state or central level—is fully committed to protecting the interests of Punjab and Chandigarh. He emphasized that under no circumstances will there be any compromise on Punjab’s land or rights, and not even an inch of Chandigarh will be moved or altered.
Confusion over Article 240
The Union Minister said that unnecessary confusion is being spread regarding Article 240. He assured that there has been no discussion in Parliament about appointing a Lieutenant Governor (LG) or about any such changes. He said the state BJP has shown sensitivity on the matter and has presented its stance before the Centre. Bittu assured that as long as there is BJP leadership, no injustice or pressure will be allowed against Punjab. He said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Punjab’s interests remain top priority, and no decision will be taken without the consent of Punjabis.
Attack on Congress and AAP
Ravneet Singh Bittu strongly attacked the Congress Party, saying that Congress has inflicted the deepest wounds on the state. He accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Congress of trying to create tension in Punjab and warned that they will not allow Punjab to deteriorate again as it had in the past.
Assurance on PU Elections
Regarding the Punjab University dispute, Bittu assured that the university’s election calendar will be released soon and the situation will return to normal.
