Punjab, December 16, 2024 (Navroze Bureau) – Due to snowfall in the hilly areas, the cold wave is increasing in Punjab due to the continuous fall in night temperatures. In view of the severe cold for the last several days, the Meteorological Department has also issued a yellow alert in many districts of Punjab. An advisory has been issued by the Health Department to prevent diseases in this season. Giving information in this regard, Civil Surgeon Ferozepur Dr. Rajwinder Kaur appealed to the district residents that the elderly and small children are mostly affected by the cold wave.
They can suffer from many diseases due to cold. Therefore, the elderly and heart disease patients should avoid going out for a walk or going out of the house in the morning and late evening when it is very cold and foggy. In this season, small children are at a higher risk of getting pneumonia and due to cold, small children can also have fever, vomiting, diarrhea. Therefore, paying special attention to the care of children, to protect small children from cold, wear warm clothes that cover the body completely, as well as wear a cap on the head and socks on the feet. In the winter season, one should never light a fire by lighting a brazier in a closed room of the house, because burning a fire produces carbon monoxide gas, which causes a lack of oxygen in the closed room, which can also prove fatal for us.
He said that the district health department has asked the senior medical officers of hospitals under the district to make necessary arrangements in the hospitals for the treatment of patients suffering from cold. He also said that shivering in the cold should not be ignored. If any such symptoms are seen, then a doctor should be contacted in the nearest health institution.
