Major Film Union Calls For Boycott Of Ranveer Singh Over ‘Don 3’ Exit Row

May 27 : 2026 (Navroze Bureau) :  A major Indian film workers’ union has issued a non-cooperation directive against Bollywood star Ranveer Singh following his reported exit from the upcoming film Don 3, triggering fresh controversy in the Hindi film industry.

The action was taken by the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE), one of India’s largest entertainment industry bodies representing hundreds of thousands of film and television workers.

According to reports, FWICE accused Ranveer Singh of abruptly withdrawing from Don 3 shortly before the film’s overseas shooting schedule was set to begin, allegedly causing major financial and logistical losses to the production.

FWICE reportedly said producers Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani approached the union after incurring substantial pre-production expenses involving:

  • International location bookings
  • Hotel arrangements
  • Travel planning
  • Crew coordination
  • Overseas shoot preparations

Union Announces Non-Cooperation Directive

FWICE leadership stated that affiliated workers and technicians would refrain from working on projects involving Ranveer Singh until the dispute is resolved.

Union officials reportedly argued that actors must remain accountable to professional commitments and that “no superstar is above the rules of the industry.”

The body also claimed it had sent multiple notices to the actor seeking discussions before issuing the directive.

Ranveer Singh’s Response

Reports suggest Ranveer Singh’s representatives informed FWICE that the matter was contractual in nature and outside the union’s jurisdiction.

The actor has largely maintained public silence regarding the controversy, though reports indicate he may explore legal options if the directive affects ongoing or future projects.

Industry Divided Over Decision

The controversy has sparked debate within Bollywood regarding the powers of film unions and the responsibilities of major actors.

Filmmaker Sanjay Gupta publicly criticized the boycott call, questioning the logic behind such action against a leading actor.

Meanwhile, Poonam Dhillon from the Cine and TV Artistes’ Association reportedly said the issue could have been handled through mediation and professional dialogue.

‘Don 3’ At Centre Of Dispute

Don 3 had generated enormous anticipation after Ranveer Singh was announced as the new lead replacing Shah Rukh Khan in the iconic franchise.

The franchise originally began with Amitabh Bachchan before being rebooted by Farhan Akhtar in the 2000s.

Reports suggest the production had already completed extensive planning before Singh’s alleged withdrawal from the project.

Possible Financial Fallout

FWICE reportedly mentioned that producers are seeking compensation running into crores due to alleged losses linked to the project delay and disruption.

Legal experts quoted in reports noted that while union directives may create industry pressure, enforceability of financial claims would ultimately depend on court proceedings and contractual agreements.

Impact On Upcoming Projects

The controversy has raised concerns regarding several upcoming Ranveer Singh projects that could potentially face production challenges if the dispute escalates further.

Industry observers say the situation may significantly affect scheduling, collaborations, and production planning across Bollywood if not resolved quickly.

Bollywood Watches Closely

The dispute has now become one of the biggest Bollywood industry controversies of the year, highlighting broader concerns regarding:

  • Contractual discipline
  • Actor commitments
  • Production losses
  • Union authority
  • Industry professionalism

As discussions continue, the Hindi film industry is closely watching whether negotiations, legal intervention, or mediation efforts can eventually resolve the standoff between Ranveer Singh and the film workers’ union.
