In accordance with the directions of the Election Commission of India, Roll Observer Gurpreet Singh Khaira, IAS, during his second visit to Malerkotla district, conducted field-level super-checking of forms rejected under claims and objections as part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR)-2026 process, with the objective of completing the exercise in a transparent, fair and systematic manner.
After reviewing the functioning of the election staff, the Roll Observer, along with ERO Kanu Garg of Assembly Constituency 105-Malerkotla, ERO Rajesh Kumar Sharma of 106-Amargarh, Election Tehsildar Brij Mohan, Manpreet Singh and other officials, visited various households late in the evening to verify the concerned cases on the spot.
Khaira examined claims and objections relating to Booth Nos. 72, 84, 85 and 96 of Assembly Constituency 105-Malerkotla and Booth No. 119, Opalheri, of Assembly Constituency 106-Amargarh, where the relevant forms had been rejected by the respective Electoral Registration Officers. He personally met the applicants/voters, examined the required documents and verified the facts at the field level.
The Roll Observer said that maintaining transparency and impartiality in the SIR process and ensuring the inclusion of every eligible citizen in the electoral rolls are the foremost priorities. He directed the EROs that verification of forms received through the portal relating to the registration of new voters or deletion of names should not be restricted to office records alone. Wherever necessary, officials should personally visit the field and verify the facts on the ground.
Khaira emphasized that no eligible citizen should be deprived of the opportunity to have their name included in the electoral roll, while no ineligible person should be included in the list. He also directed officials to pay special attention to the registration of eligible young people as new voters and to personally conduct field-level verification wherever required to further strengthen the super-checking of claims and objections.
