14 October 2026 (Navroze Bureau) Indian golfer Pranavi Urs has said her preparation for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games will remain largely unchanged despite her historic gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games in Japan. The 23-year-old plans to continue competing on the Ladies European Tour (LET), aiming to improve her game and strengthen her chances of qualifying for the Olympics.
Pranavi recently became the first Indian woman to win an individual gold medal in golf at the Asian Games. Her achievement at the Aichi-Nagoya Games marked a significant milestone for Indian women’s golf and added to her growing reputation on the international circuit. She also contributed to India’s team silver medal at the competition
Focus remains on the Ladies European Tour
Pranavi said she intends to maintain her current schedule rather than make major changes to her training and competition plans. She expects to participate in as many LET events as possible before the Olympic qualification deadline.
Her approach reflects the importance of consistent tournament experience, particularly as she competes against international players across different courses and conditions. Regular participation will give her opportunities to improve her performance and build the ranking needed to qualify for the Los Angeles Games.
The qualification period for women’s golf at the 2028 Olympics runs until June 5, 2028. The final field of 60 players will be determined through the Olympic Golf Rankings, making results during the qualification period important for players seeking a place at the Games.
A historic Asian Games victory
Pranavi’s gold medal was the result of a determined performance in Japan. The golfer from Mysuru, Karnataka, held her composure during a tense final round to finish ahead of China’s Ruoning Yin and Singapore’s Shannon Tan.
Her final-round performance was particularly notable because she faced an early setback after a triple bogey. Rather than allowing the mistake to derail her round, she recovered and continued to follow her game plan. Her ability to manage pressure proved crucial as the contest reached its decisive stages.
Pranavi later explained that one of her important decisions came on the final hole, when she changed her club selection for her second shot. She felt a seven-iron would be more suitable than a six-iron under the circumstances, helping her manage the shot more carefully.
The victory made her the first Indian woman to win individual Asian Games gold in golf, creating a new landmark for the sport in the country.
Olympic medal and Major championship are next targets
Following her Asian Games success, Pranavi has identified two major ambitions: winning an Olympic medal and securing a title at a Major championship. She has also spoken about her desire to win on the Ladies European Tour.
