Salman Khan Opens Up About Marriage and Having Children

16 October 2026 (Navroze Bureau)  Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has opened up about his decision to remain unmarried and his hopes of becoming a father someday. During an appearance on the ninth and final season of filmmaker Karan Johar’s popular talk show Koffee With Karan, the actor spoke candidly about marriage, loneliness, family and the personal choices that have shaped his life.

Salman, who was the first guest on the latest season of the show, made it clear that his unmarried status was not the result of circumstances beyond his control. Instead, he said it was a decision he had made himself and one he was comfortable with.

Salman Khan Says Staying Unmarried Was His Own Decision

During the conversation, Karan Johar discussed relationships and the experience of being single with Salman. The filmmaker, who is a father to twins Yash and Roohi, spoke about the importance of having children and how family can bring happiness into life.

When the discussion turned to marriage, Salman explained that neither he nor Karan could blame other people for their relationship situations. The actor said that no one had prevented him from getting married and that he had made the choice himself.

“I can’t blame anyone, it’s my decision and I’m happy with that decision,” Salman said during the conversation. He also acknowledged that he had chosen not to pursue marriage, rather than being stopped by external circumstances.

His remarks offered a rare glimpse into the personal perspective of one of Hindi cinema’s most prominent stars. Salman has often faced questions about his relationship status throughout his career, but he used the conversation to underline that remaining unmarried was a personal choice.

Actor Says He Will Have Children One Day

Although Salman said he was happy with his decision not to marry, he also made it clear that fatherhood remained a possibility for the future.

When Karan asked whether he missed having children of his own, Salman responded positively and said he expected to have children at some point. His answer suggested that while he has not followed the conventional path of marriage and parenthood, he has not ruled out becoming a father.

Karan, who has spoken about the importance of his children in his own life, described parenthood as one of life’s greatest blessings. Salman congratulated the filmmaker on his family and reflected on how children grow up, build relationships and eventually establish families of their own.

The exchange brought a more personal tone to the episode, moving beyond the actor’s film career and public image to explore his thoughts on family and the future.

Conversation Turns to Loneliness and Companionship

The discussion also touched on loneliness and whether being unmarried means a person necessarily feels alone. Salman challenged that idea, suggesting that loneliness is not simply about whether someone has a partner.

He told Karan that a person should not automatically consider themselves lonely because they are single. His comments reflected his view that relationships and companionship are shaped by individual circumstances, choices and experiences.

Salman’s remarks also highlighted the difference between being without a partner and feeling unwanted or isolated. Rather than blaming others for his circumstances, he reiterated that he accepted responsibility for his own decisions.

The actor’s perspective resonated with the broader theme of the conversation: that marriage is a personal decision and that there is no single path to happiness or fulfilment.

Salman Revisits His Earlier Remark About Being a Virgin

The episode also revisited another widely discussed moment from Salman’s previous appearance on Koffee With Karan. During his 2014 appearance, the actor had made the remark, “I’m a virgin,” which subsequently attracted considerable public attention.

In the new conversation, Salman explained that the comment had been a way of avoiding questions about his personal relationships. He said he did not always want to discuss whom he might be dating, particularly because relationships can change and the person involved may eventually marry someone else.

His explanation offered additional context for a remark that had remained a subject of public curiosity for years. It also reinforced his preference for keeping aspects of his private life away from constant public discussion
