Multiple Explosions Heard on Iran’s Qeshm Island, Bandar Lengeh; US Officials Confirm Limited Strikes Near Strait of Hormuz

3 November 2026 (Navroze Bureau) Multiple explosions were reported on Iran’s Qeshm Island and in the coastal city of Bandar Lengeh on Tuesday, November 3, amid heightened military tensions around the strategically important Strait of Hormuz. Iranian news agencies reported the blasts, while US officials separately confirmed that American forces had carried out limited strikes against targets on Qeshm Island.

Iran’s state news agency IRNA reported that five explosions were heard on Qeshm Island, which lies in the Strait of Hormuz in southern Iran. The semi-official Fars news agency also reported explosions coming from the direction of the sea near Bandar Lengeh in Hormozgan province.

The cause of the explosions was initially unclear, and Iranian agencies did not provide details about casualties or damage. However, reports from the United States later indicated that the incident was connected to a limited military operation.

US Officials Confirm Limited Strikes on Qeshm Island

According to Reuters, a US official confirmed that American forces had carried out limited strikes on Qeshm Island. Another US official described the operation as defensive measures against Iranian forces that were allegedly using surface-to-air missiles against US assets.

The officials indicated that the strikes were limited in scope and did not represent a return to major combat operations. The Pentagon referred questions about the operation to US Central Command, which had not responded to requests for comment at the time of the report.

Fox News, citing officials, separately reported that the strikes followed Iran firing at a US aircraft. The available reports did not provide independently verified details about the specific targets, the extent of damage or any casualties.

Explosions Also Reported Near Bandar Lengeh

Alongside the reports from Qeshm Island, Fars news agency said explosions were heard from the direction of the sea near Bandar Lengeh, a coastal port city in Hormozgan province.

The reports placed the incidents close to the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most strategically important maritime routes. The waterway connects the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and is a major passage for international energy shipments.

At the time of the initial reports, there was no confirmed information establishing whether the explosions near Bandar Lengeh were connected to the reported strikes on Qeshm Island.

Iran Had Earlier Reported US Drone Incidents

The latest developments came after Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed that its forces had brought down US reconnaissance drones near the Strait of Hormuz.

Iranian reports referred to the alleged interception of MQM-170 reconnaissance drones using electronic warfare systems. The IRGC also separately claimed that an MQ-9 drone had been destroyed east of the strait.

These claims were reported by Iranian media and should be distinguished from independently confirmed information. The latest US statements, however, described the strikes on Qeshm Island as defensive action against perceived threats to American assets.

Explosions Reported Amid Diplomatic Exchanges

The military developments came at a time when Washington and Tehran were continuing diplomatic exchanges through intermediaries. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei said that messages were being exchanged between the two countries through mediators.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi had also visited Doha as part of efforts involving Qatari mediation.

US President Donald Trump had indicated that a possible agreement with Iran could be within reach. He linked falling oil prices to expectations that a wider conflict could be avoided.

The latest explosions and the reported US strikes have therefore added uncertainty to an already sensitive situation, particularly as diplomatic efforts continue alongside military tensions.

Strategic Importance of Qeshm Island and the Strait of Hormuz

Qeshm is Iran’s largest island and is located close to the Strait of Hormuz. Its position gives it strategic importance in the security and maritime calculations of the region.

The Strait of Hormuz is a critical route for global oil and gas shipments. Any escalation involving military forces in or around the waterway can raise concerns about commercial shipping, energy supplies and regional security.

For now, the full circumstances surrounding the explosions remain unclear. While US officials have confirmed limited strikes on Qeshm Island, details about the targets, damage and possible casualties have not been established in the available reports.
