Chandigarh, January 16, 2025: The weather across North India, including Punjab, has changed significantly. Heavy rain occurred from Delhi-NCR to Punjab early Thursday morning. The Meteorological Department predicts more rain after 24 hours. The department stated that while dense fog was prevalent from Rajasthan and Haryana to Bihar in recent days, rain has now brought relief from it. Over the past 24 hours, parts of Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan recorded rainfall. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is also expected in some areas of South India.
Delhi-NCR experienced heavy rain on Thursday morning, with light showers recorded in the evening. The Meteorological Department forecasts continued rain across Delhi-NCR and other northern states for the next three to four days. Due to the rain, the minimum temperature in Delhi-NCR may rise by 1 to 3 degrees Celsius.
On Wednesday, GRAP-4 was imposed due to poor AQI, but rain is expected to bring some relief. The capital will also see a respite from fog. However, following the rain, the entire city is likely to experience biting cold.
From January 15 to 17, the Meteorological Department predicts heavy snowfall and rain in the hilly regions. Rain is likely to continue for the next 24 hours in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, eastern and northeastern Rajasthan, and eastern Madhya Pradesh. The Himalayan regions are also expected to witness heavy snowfall along with rain.
In the past 24 hours, light rainfall was recorded in parts of Uttar Pradesh, Delhi-NCR, Haryana, and Punjab. There are also reports of hailstorms in Rajasthan. Over the next 24 hours, scattered rain is expected in parts of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, including Ayodhya and Prayagraj.
Weather Improvement:
The department predicts slight improvement in weather activity over the next 24 hours. However, this relief is short-lived, as a new western disturbance developing in northwestern India will bring rain again. From January 20 to 23, heavy rainfall is expected in Rajasthan, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh. This rain will be heavier than the current spell. A severe cold wave warning has also been issued.
Summary: Heavy rain and snowfall expected across North India, including Punjab, Haryana, and hilly areas. Relief likely for 24 hours, followed by renewed rain and cold wave.
