April 9, 2025 : Sougata Roy of the Trinamool Congress has claimed that Lok Sabha MP Mahua Moitra was seen crying following a spat with colleague Kalyan Banerjee before a party delegation met the Election Commission last week. Sougata Roy also demanded Kalyan Banerjee’s removal as the TMC chief whip in the House over behavioural issues.
The veteran TMC MP’s comments came even as a purported video of a verbal spat, and screenshots of heated exchanges between TMC MPs Kalyan Banerjee and Kirti Azad in the party’s official WhatsApp group, shared by Bharatiya Janata Party IT cell head Amit Malviya, went viral on Tuesday.

In Kolkata, Sougata Roy on Tuesday accused Kalyan Banerjee of being “uncivilised” on multiple occasions and mentioned that during a Joint Parliamentary Committee meeting on the Waqf Bill, the Srerampore MP broke a bottle and threw it at the chairman of the panel, news agency PTI reported.
Amit Malviya had shared videos purportedly showing Kalyan Banerjee shouting at his colleagues while entering the Election Commission’s office as party leaders tried to calm him down. Sougata Roy confirmed that an altercation indeed took place but added that he was not present there.
