Firozpur, April 11, 2025 : In view of the advisory issued by the National Disaster Management Authority and State Disaster Management Authority regarding Heat Wave 2025, a meeting was held today by Additional Deputy Commissioner (G) Dr. Nidhi Kumud Bambha with officials of concerned departments to review advance preparedness. The purpose is to ensure that no resident of the district, especially those from economically weaker and underprivileged sections, suffers any loss of life due to the heat.
During the meeting, the ADC reviewed the action taken reports submitted by the departments as per the issued guidelines and gave further necessary instructions. She said that in the coming days, extremely hot weather and heatwave conditions are expected. Hence, responsibilities have been assigned to various departments accordingly.
Departments have been instructed to issue heat alerts, review reports during heat alerts, ensure the availability of clean drinking water, and maintain uninterrupted electricity supply in hospitals and other essential places. The Health Department has been directed to spread awareness about heat-related illnesses, ensure availability of medicines, ORS, necessary supplies, and staff at all hospitals and health centers, and remain prepared for emergency situations.
The District Mandi Officer has been asked to ensure arrangements for drinking water, shade, and restrooms for farmers, laborers, and others during the procurement season in mandis. Urban local bodies and the Rural Development and Panchayat Department have been instructed to provide water and shade facilities for workers. The Animal Husbandry Department has been directed to spread awareness through advisories on protecting animals and birds from heat and ensure the availability of necessary medicines in veterinary hospitals. Public places like bus stands have been instructed to make arrangements for drinking water, shade, and shelters.
The ADC emphasized that high temperatures can disrupt the body’s temperature regulation system and lead to heat-related illnesses. She also noted that due to climate change, the risk of viral diseases increases. People working outdoors should wear full-sleeved light-colored cotton clothes, use umbrellas, hats, towels, or cover their heads with a turban or cloth to avoid direct sun exposure. She advised increasing consumption of seasonal fruits and vegetables like watermelon, muskmelon, oranges, grapes, cucumber, tomatoes, and gourds, which have high water content.
She appealed to all residents of the district to follow the advisory issued by the Health Department to protect themselves from the heat and hot winds. The meeting was attended by SDM Firozpur Divya P., Chief Agriculture Officer Gurpreet Singh Sidhu, Executive Officer of Municipal Council Firozpur Poonam Bhatnagar, and other officials from various departments.
