‘Saaf Ropar’ Campaign Launched by Deputy Commissioner Walia and MLA Chaddha

Rupnagar, May 1 : With the aim of making the city free from garbage, Deputy Commissioner Varjit Walia and MLA Advocate Dinesh Chaddha officially launched the “Saaf Ropar” campaign during a special event organized today at Giani Jailsingh Nagar. A large number of city residents, along with municipal council employees and sanitation workers, were present at the event.

During the event, while addressing the gathering, the Deputy Commissioner said that the “Saaf Ropar” campaign has been launched to develop the city, surrounded by beautiful hills, rivers, and the Shivalik range, as one of the cleanest cities in the country. The campaign will start from the main roads of the city, and every neighborhood, colony, and area will be completely cleaned, with the active participation and role of the city residents.

Varjit Walia informed that for the past 10 days, 40-50 municipal council sanitation workers have been continuously cleaning the city on a war footing, using 4 tractor-trailers, JCBs, mechanical sweeping machines, and 11 vehicles for door-to-door waste collection. A large amount of waste on the roads has been cleared, and the main roads of the city have been given a new look.

He stated that nearly 6.5 kilometers of roads have been cleaned so far, and this initiative has been appreciated by the residents, who have expressed their support and commitment to contribute actively to the “Saaf Ropar” campaign.

On this occasion, the Deputy Commissioner appealed to the general public that the success of this campaign can only be achieved with everyone’s support. It has also been observed that the district administration and municipal council are receiving full cooperation from city residents to keep the areas clean.

Advocate Dinesh Chaddha, addressing the gathering, mentioned that Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and the Punjab state government are committed to providing the citizens with a clean and healthy environment. Keeping this in mind, the “Saaf Ropar” campaign has been launched on a large scale, and efforts are being made daily to keep the roads free of garbage.

MLA Advocate Dinesh Kumar Chaddha also stated that Rupnagar would soon be developed as a model city in terms of cleanliness, with the formal initiation of this project being the cleaning of the park at Giani Jailsingh Colony. Additionally, all parks in the city will undergo cleaning, beautification, and renovation.

He further stated that in the coming days, every street, square, and alley in the city would be cleaned. He emphasized that it is essential to keep our localities clean because a clean environment is crucial for preventing diseases and ensuring good health.

At this occasion, the Nehru Youth Center also presented a skit on the importance of cleanliness. S. Inderjeet Singh Bala presented a petition to Deputy Commissioner Varjit Walia for providing excellent administrative services.
