Patiala, 14 May 2025: Additional Deputy Commissioner (Urban Development), Navreet Kaur Sekhon, stated that under the Ayushman Bharat Health Account (Health ID Card) initiative, every individual in Patiala district will be issued a Health ID Card. This will enable all health records of a person to be stored online, assisting doctors in better understanding the patient’s medical history during treatment.
She directed district education officers to ensure that ABHA cards (Ayushman Bharat Health Account) are created for all students in government schools across the district.
Navreet Kaur Sekhon emphasized that the initiative by the Ministry of Health to create Health ID Cards will make medical treatment and healthcare management easier by having all health records online. This will reduce dependency on patients or their relatives to provide medical history during treatment.
Civil Surgeon Dr. Jagpalinder Singh mentioned that ABHA cards have already been issued to 46% of individuals in Patiala district. He explained that patients visiting government hospitals can get this card made at the reception counter itself. He further added that health records linked to a Health ID or ABHA number can only be accessed with the individual’s consent.
These cards will store previous treatment records, blood group, type of illness, and details of medications taken. Dr. Singh also mentioned that the ABHA Health Card is issued free of cost, requiring documents such as an Aadhaar card or driving license. Each card carries a unique 14-digit number that helps maintain paperless health records.
The meeting was attended by District Medical Commissioner Dr. Jaswinder Singh, Dr. Sumit Singh, Dr. Ashish Sharma, Dr. Jaideep Bhatia, Dr. Nitesh Bansal, several SMOs, and officials from the Education Department.
Summary: Additional Deputy Commissioner Navreet Kaur Sekhon announced that every resident in Patiala district will receive a Health ID Card, aiming to enhance healthcare access and emergency preparedness.
