Prepare in Advance for Monsoon and Flood Risks, Urges ADC

Bathinda, 21 May 2025: As per the directions of Deputy Commissioner Mr. Shaukat Ahmad Pare, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Madam Poonam Singh held a meeting with officials regarding advance preparations for the upcoming monsoon season and potential floods and issued necessary instructions.

During the meeting, the Additional Deputy Commissioner directed police department officials to prepare an alternate traffic route plan in case of floods or heavy rain. She instructed Municipal Corporation officials to ensure regular ward-wise sewer cleaning throughout the district, and to make arrangements for pump set maintenance and installation of new generators at water drainage points.

She also instructed concerned officials to ensure the establishment of control rooms at the district and tehsil levels. Health department officials were directed to spread awareness about diseases common during the rainy season and to make arrangements for medicines to prevent illnesses such as dengue, malaria, and diarrhea.

The ADC asked irrigation department officials to identify and reinforce weak embankments along the Bathinda canal and other canals, drains, and minors in the district. She also emphasized ensuring the availability of sandbags and sacks during the rainy season.

Officials from the electricity department were instructed to ensure uninterrupted power supply during the rainy season. She further directed that all exposed wires and fallen power lines be properly repaired or secured to prevent any casualties from electric shock in stagnant water. Complaints regarding such electrical issues must be resolved on priority.

Animal husbandry officials were told to arrange necessary medicines to prevent or treat diseases in livestock. Officials from the district development and panchayat departments were directed to ensure cleaning of village ponds in their respective blocks before the onset of floods or rains.

On this occasion, SDM Maur Mr. Sukhraj Singh, SDM Rampura Mr. Gagandeep Singh, SDM Talwandi Sabo Mr. Pankaj Kumar, Chief Minister’s Field Officer Mr. Ramanjeet Singh, and other officials from various departments were present.

With the monsoon season approaching, the Additional Deputy Commissioner has stressed the importance of proactive planning to tackle potential flooding effectively.
