May 27, 2025 : On Monday, in Sunam, an auto-rickshaw carrying several schoolgirls fell into a pit that had been dug to stop a water leakage. As the auto fell into the pit, panic and screams broke out among the students. Locals rushed to the spot and helped pull the girls out of the vehicle. Several students were injured in the incident but were sent home after receiving medical treatment.
The accident occurred in the Bakhshiwala area of Sunam. The girls were students of Shaheed Udham Singh Girls School and were traveling in the auto when it fell into the pit dug for pipeline repair. Hearing the girls’ cries, nearby people gathered to help. Local residents have stated that the administration needs to take such incidents seriously to prevent them from happening again.
Demand for strict action:
Virender Kaushik from the Lokhit Sangharsh Committee said that the water supply line in the area is very old. Whenever heavy vehicles (with 12–18 tires) pass over it, the pipeline tends to leak. He emphasized that the issue should be addressed proactively.
Raman Singh added that the administration must understand the condition of the people—if someone were to lose their life in such accidents, who would be held responsible?
Summary:
An auto-rickshaw carrying students fell into a pit in Sunam. Locals are disappointed with the administration’s negligence.
