Chamkaur Sahib, 04 June 2025 : MLA Dr. Charanjit Singh said that quitting addiction by undergoing treatment with determination and self-will is very easy. He appealed that if we, understanding our social responsibility, continuously encourage youth suffering from addiction to get treatment at government de-addiction centers, we will soon achieve the goal of creating a healthy society.
After conducting anti-drug awareness campaigns in the villages of Mehitot (Fatehpur), Khokhar (Dalla), Makkowal (Sultanpur), Makkowal Nawan (Sarngpur), Rampur (Fasse), and Rasidpur (Dhumewal), MLA Dr. Charanjit Singh said in his address that a straightforward conversation can convince any misguided youth, but often people addicted to drugs are not given the right guidance so that they can be treated for their physical and mental illnesses and recover.
He said that under the leadership of Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab government is conducting this anti-drug campaign to raise widespread awareness about the harmful effects of drugs. Under this campaign, the government identifies drug addicts and provides them free treatment at de-addiction centers.
He further added that if any parent is facing difficulty in getting their child treated, they should contact the authorities so that no patient is left without treatment.
He said that the de-addiction center at the district hospital in Rupnagar has been fully equipped under the “War Against Drugs” campaign started to completely eradicate drug addiction from the state. Any drug addict can get free treatment here, and patient identities are kept confidential.
MLA Dr. Charanjit Singh, after addressing people in the villages mentioned above, stated that the government has already taken strong action against drug traffickers, which has significantly controlled the drug trade. He said that completely eliminating drugs requires everyone’s cooperation.
He appealed to the people to actively contribute to the “War Against Drugs” campaign to make Punjab a vibrant and drug-free state once again.
He said that the Punjab government has resolved to make every village, street, locality, and city drug-free, and soon Punjab will become a healthy state once again. He requested people to report any drug dealers nearby, assuring that the identity of informants will be kept confidential.
