Gurdaspur, April 24: In a tribute to the innocent tourists who lost their lives in the recent attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, a candle march and condolence meeting were held in Gurdaspur yesterday evening under the leadership of the Aam Aadmi Party.
The candle march began at Hanuman Chowk and passed through Imamwara Chowk, the inner city markets, Baba Roda Bura Mandir, Bata Chowk, and concluded at the Post Office Chowk.
Participating in the candle march were Gurdaspur Market Committee Chairman Bharat Bhushan Sharma, senior AAP leaders Ajay Bahil, Kabir Bahil, Block Presidents Raghubir Singh Khalsa and Hitesh Mahajan, Trade Association President Ashok Mahajan, former chairman Neeraj Salhotra, Yogesh Sharma, Munish Verma, Simranjit Singh, Dipinder Singh Robin, Rupesh Bittu, Rishi Kant, and District Office Incharge Jagjit Singh Pinta, along with a large number of city residents.
Strongly condemning the heinous attack on tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, Chairman Bharat Bhushan Sharma called it a cowardly and shameful act of terrorism. Expressing sympathy with the affected families, he said this is a deeply sorrowful time and that the entire nation stands united with them. He condemned all forms of terrorism in strong terms.
He noted that this region has long faced the menace of terrorism, including the Pulwama attack in 2019 and the Uri attack in 2016. Targeting tourists in Jammu & Kashmir shows that terrorists do not want peace in the region and are trying to instill fear in the minds of travelers.
He urged the central government to ensure the harshest punishment for those responsible for targeting innocent people, so that fear can be eradicated from people’s hearts.
