Firozpur, 06 June 2025 : Additional District Magistrate Damanjit Singh Maan, PCS, has issued orders imposing various restrictions across Firozpur district under the powers vested in him through Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) 2023. These orders will remain effective for two months from the date of issuance.
Ban on covering face while walking or riding vehicles:
To protect public safety and property, the ADM has banned riding vehicles or walking in public with the face covered within the district. He stated that anti-social elements might commit serious crimes while hiding their identity and evade police detection. However, this restriction does not apply to individuals who wear masks for medical reasons or under medical supervision due to illness or allergies.
Ban on carrying weapons at public events:
The ADM has prohibited the carrying of weapons during weddings and other public ceremonies within the Firozpur district.
Ban on unauthorized hoardings on public/government land:
The ADM has strictly prohibited the installation of hoardings on government land, roads, intersections, etc., without permission from relevant municipal councils, cantonment boards, nagar panchayats, gram panchayats, or departments. This is to prevent traffic disruptions, accidents, and communal tensions that could arise from objectionable language or placement.
Ban on obscene posters on buildings or public places:
The ADM has also prohibited the display of obscene and indecent posters on government/private buildings and public spaces.
Ban on illegal encroachments:
Citizens are forbidden from encroaching on land adjacent to public or link roads, as such acts can endanger public safety and cause damage to life and property.
Ban on nylon/synthetic kite strings:
Another order bans the sale, storage, and use of kite strings made of nylon, synthetic, or plastic (coated with powdered glass) for flying kites.
According to forest officials, such strings are non-degradable, sharp, and extremely dangerous. They cause deep cuts on hands and fingers of kite flyers, injure cyclists and two-wheeler riders, and entangle and kill birds. These threads pose a serious threat to both human lives and animals, which is why their use and sale must be strictly prohibited.
Ban on carrying weapons and organizing gatherings in public places:
The ADM has also prohibited carrying deadly weapons, organizing meetings, protests, rallies, strikes, burning effigies, or any activity that disrupts public movement or law and order at public places.
This order, however, does not apply to on-duty police or army personnel, government officials, permitted wedding/funeral processions, election-related rehearsals, or events explicitly authorized by the District or Sub-Divisional Magistrate.
These restrictions are aimed at maintaining peace, public safety, and harmony across the district.
Summary:
The Additional District Magistrate has released official orders enforcing several restrictions to maintain law and order and ensure public safety in the district.
