Chandigarh, December 31, 2024: Nana Patekar is known not only for his acting but also for his social work. A great actor and a sensitive person, Nana became famous for his healthy lifestyle and social contributions. However, at one point in his life, he struggled with a smoking addiction. He used to smoke over 60 cigarettes a day.
Speaking with The Lallantop, he shared that after the death of his son, he fell into shock and became addicted to smoking. He said, “After a while, someone special explained to me, and I gave up the habit.”
Nana also revealed that when his son was born, he named him Durvasa. However, his son had a vision problem from birth and couldn’t see. Nana started to feel ashamed, worrying about what others would think of his son, but never considering what his son must have felt.
Nana further explained, “Two and a half years later, he left us. There was nothing we could do, some things are already destined. After that shock, I became addicted to cigarettes. I even smoked while bathing. It got so bad that I smoked 60 cigarettes a day. The smell was so strong that no one could sit in my car. Though I never drank alcohol, I started smoking excessively.”
Nana shared, “My sister’s scolding forced me to quit smoking. She had lost her son, and one day, she saw me coughing and said, ‘What more do I need to see?’ Hearing this made me sad, and I quit smoking.”
