Samrala 30 May 2025 : Incidents of sacrilege in gurudwaras across the state show no sign of stopping. On Friday, in the nearby village of Ladhra near Samrala, an incident of sacrilege occurred at the Darbar Sahib in the gurudwara when a burning torch caused a fire, damaging the Gutka Sahib and pictures of the Gurus. Police officials and members of the management committee have reached the site, but due to ongoing factionalism in the village, a thorough investigation of all facts is underway to uncover the truth behind the incident.
Meanwhile, a three-member team from the Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC), including the manager and head granthi of Gurudwara Shri Katana Sahib, has also arrived to investigate the fire incident at the gurudwara. Following the event, there is widespread anger among villagers who suspect mischievous elements behind the incident and are demanding strict action against those responsible. They have alleged that the fire was deliberately set using the burning flame inside Darbar Sahib, noting that the DVR of the surveillance cameras installed inside the gurudwara was tampered with and the statements from the granthis and sevadars present inside differ.
Some members of the congregation present said that when some villagers came to pay respects at the gurudwara yesterday evening, the fire was already burning and water was being used to extinguish it, while the granthis claim the fire occurred only that morning. Some villagers believe the sacrilege incident is being covered up.
At the scene, DSP Samrala Tarlochan Singh said he was informed about the incident early this morning by the management committee and immediately arrived to personally investigate the facts. He said that there had already been disputes between the two parties related to this gurudwara, so after the full investigation, action will be taken based on the findings. He also stated that the SGPC’s three-member committee is investigating the entire incident, and their report will be reviewed by the police.
Police have seized the DVR
DSP Tarlochan Singh informed that surveillance cameras are regularly installed at this gurudwara and the police have seized the DVR and sent it for investigation to uncover the truth behind the incident. He added that the truth about the tampering allegations with the DVR will soon be revealed.
Summary: Punjab has witnessed another sacrilege incident, causing widespread shock and anger among people, raising serious concerns about law and order in the region.
