Fazilka, September 3, 2026:
The District Administration, Fazilka, in accordance with the directions of the Punjab Government, organized a marathon today dedicated to the 650th Prakash Purb (birth anniversary) of Sri Guru Ravidas Ji. The marathon began from the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Multipurpose Sports Stadium, Fazilka.
Assistant Commissioner Harbans Singh and Under Training Officer Subrat Singh, along with a large number of young athletes—both boys and girls—participated in the marathon organized to commemorate the 650th Prakash Purb of Sri Guru Ravidas Ji.
The marathon started from Shaheed Bhagat Singh Stadium and proceeded to the Indian Oil petrol pump on the Sulemanaki-Fazilka Road, reaching Sureshwala, before returning to and concluding at the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Multipurpose Sports Stadium, Fazilka. A 5-kilometre race was organized, and the winners were felicitated.
On the occasion, Assistant Commissioner Harbans Singh briefed the participating children and district residents about the events being organized to mark the Prakash Purb of Guru Ravidas Ji. He said, “The Punjab Government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, is celebrating the 650th Prakash Purb of Guru Ravidas Ji on a large scale. As part of these celebrations, this marathon has been organized for the creation of a healthy and progressive society.” He congratulated all the participating athletes, children and residents of the district.
He further said that the marathon inspires us to understand that sports play an important role in keeping us fit and healthy. He added that if young people are to be protected from drug abuse, sports are one of the best ways to help them stay away from this menace.
Under Training Officer Subrat Singh said that marathons dedicated to the 650th Prakash Purb of Sri Guru Ravidas Ji were organized across all districts of Punjab. He said the marathon teaches us that everyone should participate in sports without any discrimination, and that people from every section of society can take part. He added that the marathon conveys the message that sports are an important part of our lives.
He further informed that the Punjab Government provided T-shirts and refreshments to the participating athletes. He said the marathon was named “Run of Equality” with the objective of enabling athletes from different religions to participate without discrimination and promoting mutual brotherhood and harmony among them.
On the occasion, DSP Avinash Chander, along with Jatinder Singh from the Sports Department, and a large number of young athletes were present.
