Firozpur, April 22, 2025 : The Additional District Magistrate, Dr. Nidhi Kumud Bambah, PCS, under the powers granted by Section 163 of the Indian Citizenship Security Act, has imposed a complete ban on the harvesting of wheat using combines in the Firozpur district from 7:00 PM to 8:00 AM. Additionally, the owners of the combines used for wheat harvesting in the district have been instructed to get their machines inspected by the Agriculture Department for operational readiness before using them.
According to the order, it has been observed that combines are typically used for 24 hours for wheat harvesting. However, operating combines during the night poses a risk of damage to life and property, and there is a threat of accidents. As a result, the harvesting of green, not fully dried wheat at night leads to poor quality of the wheat, which may turn black while drying. This directly harms farmers, as the wet wheat cannot be sold in the markets, often leading to a breakdown in law and order. Furthermore, it has been observed that many old combines are still being used for harvesting, which deteriorates the quality of the wheat. When the wheat cannot be sold, it causes frustration among farmers, leading to the potential for law and order issues.
This order will remain in effect in the Firozpur district until May 31, 2025.
Summary: The Additional District Magistrate has imposed a ban on wheat harvesting with combines from 7:00 PM to 8:00 AM in the district to ensure safety.
