1 September 2026 (Navroze Bureau) : BJP Punjab in-charge Satish Poonia is visiting Jalandhar on Tuesday, September 1, as part of his three-day organisational tour of Punjab. He is scheduled to hold a series of meetings with party workers and office-bearers as the BJP prepares for the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections.
Workshop Under Seva Sankalp Abhiyan
During his Jalandhar visit, Poonia will participate in a workshop linked to the BJP’s Prime Minister Seva Sankalp Abhiyan.
The nationwide campaign is scheduled to run from September 17 to October 17, with programmes planned across Punjab at booth, circle, district and state levels.
Meetings With State and District Functionaries
Poonia is expected to hold separate meetings with state office-bearers, zonal in-charges, district in-charges, co-in-charges and representatives of various organisational units.
The discussions are aimed at reviewing the party’s organisational activities, identifying strengths and challenges and assessing the political situation in Punjab.
Focus on Mission Punjab 2027
The visit comes as the BJP steps up preparations for the 2027 Punjab Assembly polls.
Poonia has said that strengthening the party organisation from the booth level to the state level will be his immediate priority. He has described a strong grassroots organisation as the first requirement for the BJP’s “Mission Punjab 2027”.
BJP Rules Out Alliance for Now
Poonia’s Jalandhar meetings also come against the backdrop of speculation about a possible revival of the BJP-SAD alliance.
On Monday, Poonia categorically said that the BJP would contest all 117 Punjab Assembly seats on its own strength, ruling out an alliance with the Shiromani Akali Dal or other political groups.
He also said that meetings between political leaders and Prime Minister Narendra Modi should not automatically be interpreted as negotiations for an electoral alliance.
Cadre at the Centre of Strategy
Poonia has emphasised the importance of BJP workers in building the party’s electoral organisation.
He has said the party’s strength lies in its cadre and that workers should remain at the centre of organisational activities. He has also stressed discipline while encouraging party workers to express their views within the organisational framework.
Assessing Punjab’s Political Landscape
The meetings in Jalandhar are expected to give Poonia a closer understanding of the BJP’s organisational position in the region.
Discussions with district-level leaders and workers will likely focus on the party’s grassroots reach, booth-level preparedness and political challenges ahead of the 2027 elections.
