CM Mann Appeals to PM Modi for Support Amid Punjab Floods

1 Sep 2025 : Amid the flood situation in Punjab, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In the letter, CM Mann appealed that the central government should release Punjab’s pending funds of ₹60,000 crore so that relief can be provided in this difficult time.

The Chief Minister wrote to PM Modi stating that Punjab is facing the most severe flood situation ever. This is a very difficult time for the state. Around 1,000 villages and lakhs of people have been affected by the floods. The worst-affected districts include Gurdaspur, Kapurthala, Amritsar, Pathankot, Ferozepur, Fazilka, and Hoshiarpur. Nearly 3 lakh acres of agricultural land have been submerged under floodwater.

He further said that farmers are facing heavy losses. Bhagwant Mann also demanded amendments in the SDRF (State Disaster Response Fund) rules so that the compensation amount given to farmers can be increased to ₹50,000 per acre. He mentioned that the Punjab government has already decided to provide ₹50,000 per acre as compensation to farmers, but central approval is necessary for this.

CM Bhagwant Mann stressed that immediate assistance from the central government is the urgent need of the hour to deal with this major natural calamity.
