Chandigarh 26 June 2025 : Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has made a strong statement regarding the arrest of senior Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Majithia. Addressing the media, he said that the “war against drugs” has been ongoing for several months, and village panchayats are also passing resolutions against drugs and drug traffickers.
Issuing a stern warning to drug traffickers, the Chief Minister said,
“I will show no mercy to those involved in drugs, no matter who they are. I am accountable to the people of Punjab and indebted to those who have placed me in this position.”
He made it clear that even politically influential accused individuals will not be spared and that no recommendations will be entertained. “We are taking action with full preparation and solid evidence,” he stated.
“Big fish should not be under any illusion.”
Taking a dig at political parties, CM Mann added, “Earlier, some leaders used to claim the government only targets small fish while letting the big ones go. Now the same people are criticizing our crackdown—this clearly indicates they were involved in the drug trade. What answer will they give to the people of Punjab now?”
He further stated, “Maybe these people want to harm me too—but I am not afraid.”
CM Mann said that luxurious mansions built by drug traffickers after destroying families have been bulldozed. Small-time peddlers are already behind bars, and soon it will be the turn of the big players. “We act strictly on the basis of evidence, and this campaign is ongoing with full strength.”
He also revealed that police personnel who were leaking information to drug traffickers before raids have been transferred on a large scale.
“This campaign is in full force, and we are receiving calls from the public saying the drug trade has significantly declined. It’s no longer easy for traffickers to operate,” he said.
