Deputy Commissioner Assures Beas River Dhussi Embankment is Completely Safe

Gurdaspur,13 Aug 2025: Deputy Commissioner Gurdaspur, Mr. Dalwinderjit Singh, informed that there is currently no risk of flooding in the Beas and Ravi rivers in the district, and both rivers are flowing within their limits. Refuting rumours that the Beas River’s Dhussi embankment near Jagatpur Tanda had been damaged by water, the Deputy Commissioner clarified that the embankment is completely safe. He added that the Beas River is flowing within its limits, and there is no threat to the adjoining areas.

Mr. Dalwinderjit Singh further said that in 2023, the section of the Dhussi embankment near Jagatpur Tanda that was damaged had been repaired immediately, and there is no danger from that area now. Afterward, the Punjab Government further strengthened the embankment. He explained that the current high water level is part of the river’s natural flow, and residential areas are located beyond the embankment. Therefore, there is absolutely no need for people to panic.

The Deputy Commissioner assured that the district administration is on full alert and that, in case of any alert about increased water release in the rivers, residents will be informed in time. He appealed to the people not to go beyond the Dhussi embankment towards the rivers. For any information, residents can contact the district administration’s flood control room at 01874-266376 or the toll-free number 1800-180-1852.

Summary:
The Deputy Commissioner confirmed the Beas River’s Dhussi embankment is secure, urging residents to ignore false rumours and trust official updates for accurate safety information.
