Fazilka, 28 July 2025 : To make Punjab drug-free on a priority basis, the Punjab Government is reconstituting Village Defence Committees. This announcement was made by Deputy Commissioner Fazilka, Amarpreet Kaur Sandhu, while chairing a meeting regarding the reformation of Village Defence Committees. District Police Chief Gurmeet Singh, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Dr. Mandeep Kaur, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Subhash Chander, SDM Fazilka Veerpal Kaur, SDM Jalalabad Kanwarjeet Singh Mann, SDM Abohar Krishna Pal Rajput, and District Development and Panchayat Officer Neeru Garg were also present.
Deputy Commissioner Amarpreet Kaur Sandhu stated that strong action is being taken at the grassroots level to eliminate drugs in villages and these committees will play a significant role in the “War Against Drugs” campaign. She informed that the Village Defence Committees will include the village sarpanch, local youth, B.D.P.O., and the S.H.O. as members. These committees will contribute significantly to making villages drug-free.
District Police Chief Gurmeet Singh said that these rural defence committees will spread awareness against drugs through street plays and door-to-door campaigns so that drugs can be eradicated from the villages. He urged the concerned officials to fully support the goal of making the villages 100% drug-free.
On this occasion, B.D.O. Abohar Antarpreet Singh, B.D.O. Khuiya Sarwar Gagandeep Kaur, senior police officers, and officials from various departments were also present.
