Sangrur, 09 June 2025 : Deputy Commissioner Mr. Sandeep Rishi stated that the annual loan schemes are formulated based on the economic and other local conditions of each district. Therefore, he has directed the managers of banks operating in Sangrur district that achieving the annual targets of these schemes is the duty of every bank. He was reviewing the performance of various banks during a district-level review committee meeting held at the District Administrative Complex.
During the meeting, he said banks should strive to meet targets in the agriculture sector and other priority sectors at all costs. It is noteworthy that during the past financial year, targets of 98.34% in the priority sector, 102.39% in the agriculture sector, and 93.36% in the MSME sector were achieved, making a total of 84.94%. He urged for further improvement in these figures.
He also mentioned that it has been observed that many bank officials themselves lack information about various welfare schemes. Due to this lack of awareness, they are unable to provide proper information to the general public, which causes many deserving people to miss out on the benefits of these schemes. He directed the lead bank to organize awareness camps to educate bank officials and the public about these schemes.
He said that central government schemes such as the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, Atal Pension Yojana, etc., play a crucial role in improving the living standards of common people. Therefore, efforts must be made to ensure maximum eligible beneficiaries avail of these schemes. He instructed banks to organize camps for this purpose and emphasized that banks in rural areas must also hold such camps. He added that people tend to withdraw when loans are not approved, which hampers their ability to stand on their own feet. Special emphasis should be placed on providing small loans to poor people without any hesitation. Banks that do not provide loans to Self-Help Groups will face strict action.
He further instructed that it must be ensured that everyone receives the benefits of government loan schemes. Departments also have the responsibility to ensure only eligible individuals apply so that the banks’ time is not wasted. Present at the meeting were Lead Bank Manager Mr. Sanjeev Agarwal, Mr. Alok Ranjan from the Reserve Bank of India, DDM Mr. Munish Gupta from NABARD, and others.
Summary:
The Deputy Commissioner stresses the urgent need to meet annual loan scheme targets to boost economic growth and support local entrepreneurs.
