Deputy Commissioner reviews paddy procurement arrangements with agents and officials

S.A.S. Nagar, 20 Aug 2025 : Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal today held a meeting with district procurement agencies, commission agents (Arhtiyas), and Market Committee officials to review arrangements for the upcoming paddy procurement season in the mandis and procurement centers of S.A.S. Nagar.

While reviewing the preparations, she emphasized the need for timely procurement and payment to farmers during the season. She directed all agencies and Market Committee officials to ensure that farmers do not face any inconvenience in the mandis during procurement operations.

She informed that temporary funds will be provided to mandis as per seasonal demand. She also stressed the need for coordination between contractors and mandi presidents to avoid difficulties in lifting and transportation. Commission agents suggested that the timing for combine harvesting should be fixed from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM, to prevent wet paddy from reaching mandis.

The Deputy Commissioner instructed officials to repair damaged roads leading to mandis at the earliest, ensure arrangements for clean drinking water, sanitation, and necessary repairs in mandis, so that farmers and commission agents do not face hardships during procurement and lifting. She further directed Mandi Board officials to ensure that there is no shortage of gunny bags (bardana).

DFSCO Dr. Navreet informed the Deputy Commissioner that there is an adequate stock of bardana in the district, with more than 70 percent stock already available with agencies.

The Deputy Commissioner also stressed that only dry and fully ripened crops should be brought to mandis to avoid shortage of space.

Interacting with commission agents, she assured them of smooth procurement operations and sought their cooperation in the process. She directed transportation contractors to ensure timely lifting of procured paddy.

On this occasion, DFSCO Dr. Navreet, Navita Bagla, Raghbir Singh, Amit Pant, Rajeev Soni, Deepak Sinha, Puneet K. Jain, Shiv Shankar, Manpreet Singh, Gursharan Singh, Varinder Singh, besides members of various Arhtiya associations, procurement agencies, and Market Committee officials were present.
