Malerkotla,  12 June 2025 :Deputy Commissioner Viraj S. Tidke has urged the people of the district to take precautions against heatwaves (loo) as temperatures continue to rise. He said that in the coming days, temperatures may increase further, making awareness and caution extremely important to avoid heatstroke.

He emphasized that the hot winds blowing till July and changes in the climate can have harmful effects on human health, but raising awareness can help reduce the impact of heat on the human body. He added that not only humans but animals also need protection from heatstroke, and the Animal Husbandry Department is educating livestock farmers on ways to protect animals from the heat.

He reiterated the need for caution and awareness as temperatures rise, noting that the human body naturally tries to regulate its temperature by sweating, which leads to water loss. This can cause restlessness, anxiety, dizziness, fainting, irritability, loss of balance while walking, seizures, and other symptoms.

He warned that people often take heatstroke lightly and believe it can’t affect them, but heatstroke can be very dangerous. Children, the elderly, pregnant women, heart patients, and obese individuals are at higher risk. Additionally, laborers and daily-wage workers are more vulnerable. He said beds have been reserved in all government hospitals in the district for heatstroke patients to ensure they receive timely care. He appealed to people to contact nearby health centers or hospitals immediately if any symptoms of heatstroke appear.

He also shared precautions that should be followed to avoid heatstroke. According to a report, people should avoid direct exposure to sunlight between 12 PM and 3 PM. One should not step outside unless absolutely necessary and must take special care of children during this time.

He appealed to the public to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water during the summer season. Focus should be more on fluids like lemonade, buttermilk, and lassi rather than heavy foods. He also advised wearing light and comfortable cotton clothes during hot weather for better protection.
