Deputy Commissioner urges farmers to bring only dry paddy for sale

Gurdaspur, 22 Sep 2025 :  Gurdaspur Deputy Commissioner Mr. Dalvinderjit Singh has appealed to all farmers of the district to harvest paddy only when it is fully ripened and to bring only dry paddy to the markets for sale.

He stated that the Government of India has fixed the moisture limit at 17% for paddy procurement. If the moisture content in any farmer’s crop exceeds 17%, the produce will not be purchased, causing difficulties for farmers in the market.

The Deputy Commissioner explained that if paddy is harvested only after it is fully ripe, the moisture content remains within the acceptable limit. He further informed that the Central Government has fixed the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for paddy this year at ₹2,389 per quintal. Farmers bringing dry paddy to the markets will be able to receive the full value of their produce.

He also directed all combine operators to carry out harvesting only between 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM so that the moisture content in the crop does not increase. Farmers were also urged to harvest their fully ripened paddy only during the daytime.

Summary : The Deputy Commissioner has appealed to farmers to ensure only dry paddy is brought to markets, aiming to maintain quality standards and prevent unnecessary complications in procurement.
