District Child Protection Officer Warns Against Viral Social Media Messages

Malerkotla, 26 June 2025:  District Child Protection Officer Harpreet Kaur has issued an appeal to the public to stay cautious about viral messages circulating on social media and messaging groups. She clarified that the Mission Vatsalya Sponsorship Scheme is a continuous scheme and does not have any fixed last date for application. Eligible beneficiaries can apply for the scheme as and when needed.

She addressed the misinformation in a viral message which falsely claims that if one parent of a child (under 18 years of age) has passed away, the family will receive ₹4,000 per month for two children, and that application forms must be submitted to the Deputy Commissioner’s office by the 27th. This, she stated, is a completely false rumor spread by mischievous elements on social media.

Harpreet Kaur confirmed that under the Mission Vatsalya Scheme, the District Child Protection Unit, Malerkotla, does indeed provide ₹4,000 per month in financial aid to eligible children under 18 through the Sponsorship Scheme, but subject to certain specific conditions.

She further added that under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner Viraj S. Tidke, the Sponsorship and Foster Care Approval Committee reviews and approves the applications of children aged 0 to 18 who meet the eligibility criteria.

The public is urged not to believe or forward unverified viral messages and to contact the District Child Protection Unit directly for accurate and official information regarding the scheme.

Summary: Authorities urge the public to stay alert and avoid spreading viral, misleading messages on social media and group chats to protect community safety and children.
